This weekend I finished reading All Fall Down by Ally Carter. I am a big fan of her books and this one did not disappoint! Imagine an island where there are embassies beside one another on one street. Embassy Row. Grace reluctantly returns here to her grandfather's care after her mother is murdered. She faces the stigma of being depressed, institutionalized and generally "crazy" BUT she will not let this interfere with her investigation to find her mother's killer! If you like mysteries and suspense, this is a great book for you!

On April 26, 2014, I had the privilege of escorting ten of our SBMS students to the Teen Book Con at Alief Taylor HIgh School with the help of Mrs. Cornforth, Ms. Ayala, and Ms. Fontenot. Over thirty authors came ready to answer questions, talk about their books and connect with teens. It was amazing!
Laurie Halse Anderson was the opening keynote speaker and then there were different author panels throughout the day. Matt de la Pena closed everything out with a final keynote and then the teens got in line for author autographs. Thank you to Blue Willow Bookshop for sponsoring such an amazing event, the incredible authors and chaperons that helped with the event! We had so much fun all together and the students are looking forward to next year. Check out the pictures below for some of the action from our events! Last fall, I had the privilege of meeting MIndy McGinnis in Austin at a book festival. She is a librarian in Ohio and this is her first book. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end! The setting is in Ohio and the water supply has run out for the cities and country side. Lynn lives with her mom in a house by a lake and they purify their own water for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Their lake is as precious as gold, so they must defend it with everything they have...which means using guns for protection. From a very young age, Lynn learns to shoot anyone who tries to take their house or water. She lives a very hardened life until some new people come into her life - Stebbs, Eli and a young girl named Lucy. I would definitely recommend this book! Ms. A and I met a new friend at the Tweens Read Conference...Lisi Harrison! She is the author of the popular series, The Clique and Monster High. Her new book is called The Pretenders and it is written in diary form. Basically there are five kids at a high school and their English teacher challenges them to fill a whole notebook with their thoughts and feelings. So the book is full of raw emotion, funny stories, and of course lots of drama. It was a quick read and one I would recommend for reluctant readers. It was so much fun to met Ms. Harrison and hear about her books! On October 19th, Ms. A and I went to the Tweens Book Festival in Pasadena, TX. It was a great time of seeing new authors, seeing old friends, and buying new books! We got to talk to Lee Bacon again and he remembered our exciting author visit from last year! I finished reading book 2 - The Nameless Hero - and he said to tell everyone at SBMS hello! So hello from Lee Bacon! Last year we had Lee Bacon visit SBMS to tell us about his first book, Joshua Dread. The second book The Nameless Hero released on September 24, 2013. Mr. Bacon's publisher graciously sent me a copy of the new book. I started reading it last night and it has already started off with a bang! A monstrous substitute librarian looking for Joshua and Sophie. I will keep you posted on how it goes! Have a great 3-day weekend! Book Cover for The Nameless Hero. Digital image.
